Memorial celebration of life music and memory tribute setup in Norfolk

A celebration of life is not a wedding, and it is not a party. It is a gathering where grief and joy can share the same room. The right piece of music, played at the right moment, can do something words alone cannot quite manage.

Tim Daymond has been a professional DJ for 50 years. Before any celebration of life booking, he speaks with the family about the person being remembered. He asks what they loved, which songs meant something to them, and the tone the family wants for the day. Everything is agreed in advance. Nothing is improvised.

Arranging a celebration of life in Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire or Lincolnshire? If you'd like to talk about the music, Tim is here when you're ready. For a fuller look at how this works, read our complete guide to celebration of life music.

What To Expect

How The Day Is Handled

Every family's day is different, and nothing here is fixed. It's simply so you know what to expect, with nothing left to wonder about on the day. You can also read reviews from other families Tim has worked with.

1 Beforehand A quiet conversation, on your own time

Tim talks through the day with you beforehand — no set format, no pressure. This is when the Bespoke Musical Timeline is discussed, and any songs to include or avoid are noted.

2 On arrival Set up quietly, well before guests arrive

Everything is set up unobtrusively. Radio microphones are tested ahead of time, so there's nothing to think about when guests arrive.

3 During the day Music at a respectful volume, moving with the mood

The soundtrack follows the tone of the day. It's reflective during the service or wake, and warmer if the gathering becomes a more social remembrance later on.

4 Afterwards A quiet departure, nothing left for you to manage

Equipment is cleared away without disruption. Your family and guests can simply be together at the end of the day.

Handled Quietly, In The Background

A Few Practical Reassurances

At a time when there's already a great deal to think about, these things are simply taken care of.

Everything In Writing

Contracts, invoices and insurance paperwork are all handled in writing. They're available whenever the family needs them, so there's one less thing to manage during a difficult time.

Payment On Your Terms

Payment can be arranged however suits the family — by card, bank transfer, via Stripe or BACS.

Fully Insured & Vetted

£10 million Public Liability Insurance, Enhanced DBS checking, and PAT-tested equipment. There's nothing further for the family to think about.

Set Up Quietly, In Advance

Equipment is set up and tested well before guests arrive. There's no disruption or last-minute activity during the gathering itself.

Tim, Every Time

Tim attends every celebration of life personally. He has never missed a booking. The day goes ahead exactly as planned.

Gentle, Practical Steps for Choosing the Music

Choosing music for a loved one can feel like a lot at once. These suggestions are meant to make it a little lighter. None of it needs to be decided in a single sitting.

Gather ideas from more than one person

Different people often remember different songs. It might be the tune someone sang in the car, a record from their teenage years, or the track they always danced to at family parties. Ask a few relatives and close friends to send two or three suggestions each, with a line on why. Looking through old records, CDs or the playlists on a phone can also help. You don't have to use everything. A shared list often brings out stories people want to tell on the day.

Think about the shape of the day

It can help to picture the gathering in stages. You might want quieter, reflective music as people arrive. Perhaps a specific song for a moment of remembrance or a toast, and something warmer later as conversation picks up. Decide whether there will be readings or speeches, roughly when, and who will speak. Even a simple outline lets the music follow the day naturally. Nobody needs to make decisions while guests are present.

Check a few things with the venue

A short call to the venue can save worry later. Ask what time you can access the room and whether there are any sound restrictions. Ask where speeches would work best so everyone can hear. If the gathering follows a funeral service elsewhere, think about travel time and allow a little leeway. Passing these details on early means everything can be arranged quietly in advance.

Look after guests who may need it

Some guests may be elderly, hard of hearing or finding the day especially difficult. Seat them away from speakers, keep a quieter corner of the room, and make sure there is step-free access. These things can make a real difference. Let whoever is arranging the music know about anyone who would prefer lower volume or no flashing lights. Small changes like these help everyone feel able to stay as long as they wish.

From Tim

A word from Tim Daymond

When a family calls me about a celebration of life, the first thing I do is listen. I want to know about the person: what they loved, the songs that meant something, and how you'd like the day to feel. Everything is agreed with you beforehand. I'll be there myself on the day, setting up quietly before anyone arrives. I've been a DJ since 1976, and I know these dates often come at short notice. Get in touch whenever you're ready.

Questions Families Often Ask

Everything you need to know about arranging a celebration of life with Tim Daymond across Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, and Lincolnshire.

How does the music get chosen?

Tim speaks with the family beforehand about the person being remembered. He asks what they loved, which songs meant something to them, and the tone you want for the day. Everything is agreed in advance, so nothing is left to chance.

Can family members request specific songs during the event?

Yes. Family and close friends can suggest meaningful tracks in advance. Tim will work these in naturally alongside the wider selection.

What if we're not sure what music the person would have wanted?

That's genuinely common, and Tim can help. A short conversation about the person's life, era and character is usually enough. Together you can build a fitting, respectful selection.
