King’s Lynn Mayor’s Award: My Customer Care Journey

Some awards come from organisations far away. However, this one comes from my own patch in West Norfolk, which makes it particularly special.
So here is the honest story of my two years as a finalist. It also explains why customer care sits at the heart of every booking.
What the King’s Lynn Mayor’s Award Is

The scheme celebrates businesses in King’s Lynn and the surrounding area. In fact, it has run since 1989. The ceremony returned to the historic Corn Exchange this year.
Importantly, this is a local award rather than a national title. However, local recognition matters, because my neighbours judge my work most closely.
Climbing the King’s Lynn Mayor’s Award Rankings
I entered the Customer Care category for two consecutive years. First, I placed a respectable 7th. Then, in 2026, I climbed to 4th place.
Fourth place did not come with a badge or certificate. Still, rising three places shows steady progress. Above all, it reflects the kind words of my clients.
Customer Care as a Sole Trader
Most finalists in this category are large firms with whole customer service teams. By contrast, I run Mobile Disco Network as a one-person business.
Therefore, you speak to me from your first message to your final song. Consequently, nothing gets lost between departments. I reply myself, usually within two to three hours during business hours.
Tim’s tip: Ask any supplier who will answer your messages after you pay. With me, the answer is always me.
Fifty Years Behind the Customer Care
My DJ career began in 1976, and Mobile Disco Network followed in 2013. Over five decades, I have also learned that small details create memorable celebrations.
- A written contract and clear prices for every booking
- Your must-play and do-not-play lists in your own planning portal
- Live song requests by QR code on the night
- Travel included across all four counties
I’m also Trading Standards Approved through the Norfolk County Council Trusted Trader scheme.
Looking Ahead to the Next King’s Lynn Mayor’s Award
Naturally, success is a journey rather than a finish line. So I am already working on new ways to look after clients in West Norfolk.
Meanwhile, every booking counts towards the next entry. Hopefully, I will return to the Corn Exchange as a finalist again, with fingers and toes firmly crossed.
