1. Will you be the DJ on the night?

Many entertainment companies operate as agencies. As a result, the person you meet may not be the person who arrives. So always ask for the DJ’s name in writing.

How I answer it: It’s me at every booking. I’ve never missed a booking, and I’ve never sent anybody else in my place.

2. Do you have public liability insurance?

Most venues ask for it before the DJ can set up. In fact, without it, a venue can refuse entry altogether. Therefore, ask to see the certificate itself, not simply a promise.

3. Is your equipment PAT tested?

Venues often request evidence that electrical equipment is safe. Hotels, schools and country houses usually check this before setting up. So a professional DJ always has the paperwork ready.

4. Are you DBS checked?

This matters whenever children and vulnerable guests attend your celebration. After all, many families invite young nieces, nephews and elderly grandparents.

5. Will I get a written contract?

A contract protects you both. It should state the date, times, venue, price and what happens if plans change. Also, read the cancellation terms carefully before signing anything.

How I answer it: Every booking comes with a written contract, ready to sign in your client portal.

6. How much is the deposit, and when is the balance due?

Know exactly what you pay and when, before you commit to anything.

How I answer it: A 45% deposit secures your date. The balance follows no later than 4 weeks before the wedding. Also, you can pay by card or bank transfer, and monthly plans are available.

7. How do we plan the music together?

Your music should sound like you, not like the DJ’s favourite playlist. Also, ask how the DJ balances guest requests against your personal preferences.

How I answer it: You choose your first dance, must-plays and Do-Not-Play list online. Then, on the night, guests can send guest requests by QR code.

8. What happens if the venue has a sound limiter?

Some venues cut the power when the music gets too loud. For example, barns, village halls and country houses often install one. So an experienced DJ plans for this carefully.

9. Are your prices fixed?

Hidden extras can turn a reasonable quote into an expensive bill. So ask for the full list of inclusions. Then compare quotes on what you actually receive, not simply the headline figure.

4. How do you picture the room at midnight: dancing, or winding down?

These answers tell me whether I can genuinely deliver the evening you imagine. Above all, they show that I care about your celebration, not just my diary.
