What the Ixion Enterprise Awards 2014 Celebrated

Ixion Holdings ran the awards. It is a not-for-profit subsidiary of Anglia Ruskin University. At the time, it also ran the New Enterprise Allowance scheme for start-ups.

First, my local Jobcentre put me forward. From 100 national entrants, the judges picked just five. Happily, Mobile Disco Network made that shortlist.

The Night in Westminster

The ceremony took place in Westminster, London. Esther McVey, then Minister of State for Employment, presented the awards.

I came home with two certificates: the Services Award and the Innovation Award. The Eastern Daily Press also covered the story at the time.

The judges highlighted my multi-camera, two-way broadcasting set-up. As a result, faraway friends and family could join a celebration live. In fact, I still livestream wedding parties for guests who cannot travel.

That mix of technology and old-fashioned service still guides my work. For example, couples now plan music in an online portal, and guests request songs by QR code.

The Only Ixion Enterprise Awards 2014 Entrant Still Trading

Being a Top 5 UK finalist was a proud moment. Later, I checked with Ixion directly. They confirmed that Mobile Disco Network is the only one of the 100 original entrants still trading.

I was told I could enter again the following year. However, Ixion never continued the scheme, so 2014 remains a one-off moment.

Tim’s tip: Longevity is a good test of any supplier. A business that has lasted usually looks after its clients.

Those certificates sit alongside 21 other judged awards. Above all, I’m also Trading Standards Approved through the Norfolk County Council Trusted Trader scheme.
