Three Best Rated DJ: What the 50-Point Inspection Checks
By Tim Daymond, DJ since 1976 · Updated 22 October 2026 · 5 minute read
Norfolk’s Only Trading Standards Approved DJ · Rated 4.9 out of 5 from more than 250 reviews
Not every award means the same thing, because some cost money to enter and others rely on public votes. Therefore, it helps to understand how an award works before it influences your booking.
This guide explains the Three Best Rated award in plain English. It covers what the inspectors check and why yearly renewal matters.
Why I Value the Three Best Rated DJ Award

I only enter awards that are free and judged by professionals. Three Best Rated passes every test I apply. First, nobody pays to enter. Next, nobody votes, so no personal information changes hands. Finally, the 50-point inspection starts from zero every year.
That last point matters most. A DJ who slips in standards would lose the award at the next review. Eleven passes in a row show eleven years of steady standards.
How the Three Best Rated DJ Inspection Works
The inspectors divide their 50 checks into four categories. Each category then examines a different side of a business.
Reputation and Experience
First, they confirm how long a business has really traded. They also check ownership history, social media and whether photos show the real business. Stock images raise a flag.
Website and Information
Next, they review service details, contact accuracy and online booking. They also look for consecutive wins over several years.
Reviews and Complaints
Importantly, this category holds 15 of the 50 points. Inspectors hunt for fake reviews, which UK law now treats as a criminal offence. They also study how the owner answers complaints over the whole trading history.
Pricing and the Surprise Call
Finally, they compare prices with the market and confirm the address. After that, someone telephones the business without warning. That unannounced call tests how I answer, live, with no script.
Why Yearly Renewal Makes a Three Best Rated DJ Stand Out
Many credentials last forever once someone grants them. However, this one requires a fresh pass every year. Annual renewal keeps every winner honest.
Also, businesses reach Hall of Fame status after ten consecutive wins. I have now held Hall of Fame status for ten years. Above all, it shows consistency rather than one good year.
Tim’s tip: Look for the current year on any award badge. An old badge tells you nothing about today.
Other Checks Alongside the Award
The award answers one question: does this DJ pass a strict yearly inspection? Meanwhile, other credentials answer different questions.
- I’m Trading Standards Approved through the Norfolk County Council Trusted Trader scheme, ID 0000457.
- I’m an NADJ member, which means I follow a trade code of conduct.
- Couples rate me 4.9 out of 5 from more than 250 reviews.
Norfolk and Suffolk Trading Standards also run the Stamp Out Rogue Traders campaign. It warns against pressure selling, large cash deposits and missing paperwork. So every booking with me follows the Stamp Out Rogue Traders advice, with a contract and clear prices.
