Norfolk’s Only Trading Standards Approved DJ · Rated 4.9 out of 5 from more than 250 reviews
Cambridgeshire has some of the finest party and wedding venues in East Anglia. It mixes cathedral cities, university buildings, country houses and converted barns. I’m Tim Daymond, known as Tinsel Tim, and I’ve been a DJ since 1976.
Every type of space has its own sound and its own rules. So here’s what to know about the county’s venues before you book your music.
What to Look For in DJ Hire for Cambridgeshire Venues
Most couples worry about one thing above all: will the DJ actually turn up? So start with facts you can check.
- One named person. I personally play every booking, and I’ve never missed one.
- Independent approval. I’m Trading Standards Approved under the Norfolk County Council scheme (ID 0000457).
- Proper paperwork. You get £10 million public liability insurance, PAT-tested kit and an Enhanced DBS check.
- Real reviews. I’m rated 4.9 out of 5 from more than 250 reviews across Google, Bark and Trusted Trader.

DJ Hire at Cambridgeshire Venues, Area by Area
The county is wonderfully varied. Therefore, each area below brings its own style of party.
Cambridge City
Options range from intimate college dining halls to grand hotel rooms. Each one rewards a DJ who understands how rooms behave at volume.
Hotel du Vin Cambridge
High ceilings and warm light. So it suits a carefully paced evening set.
Histon Manor
A traditional country house just north of the city, with a proper dance floor.
Quy Mill Hotel
A converted mill on the eastern edge of Cambridge, full of character.
Ely and the Riverside
Ely is one of the most atmospheric places to celebrate in the county. Plus, its riverside venues make beautiful summer settings.
Poets House
Intimate and elegant. Also, it works best with a controlled, well-judged set.
The Maltings
It suits a larger crowd and a bigger sound. However, as with most riverside venues, speaker position matters.
The Old Hall
A characterful listed building. So careful sound planning pays off, because odd room shapes can trap sound.
Peterborough
Holmewood Hall
A grand country house with generous acoustics. Still, the estate has its own rules on sound levels.
Elton Hall
A private estate of rare grandeur, so preparation is everything.
The Cresset
Big enough for larger receptions with ease. Also, it’s easy for guests to reach.
The Bull Hotel
An established city venue with good access for guests.
Orton Hall Hotel
Another well-known event space, handy for guests staying over.
Huntingdon and Godmanchester
Hinchingbrooke House
A venue with genuine history. Its stonework and corridors change how sound travels, so I plan speaker positions early.
Island Hall
A Georgian mansion in Godmanchester that suits elegant receptions.
Swynford Manor
Rural character with modern event facilities. In short, it offers the best of both.
Barns and Country Houses
Barn venues are hugely popular across East Anglia, so they deserve their own section. Yet they’re also among the most technically demanding.
Bassmead Manor Barns
A firm favourite that pairs rustic charm with modern facilities. Plus, it uses a noise limiter.
South Farm
One of the county’s most photographed venues, near Royston.
Longstowe Hall
A landmark country house setting. So it suits grand, formal celebrations.
Childerley Long Barn
Rustic character combined with a modern event layout.
Limiters, Barns and Listed Rooms
Noise limiters, listed building restrictions and unusual room shapes all affect how music lands. So does the height of the ceiling. For example, a long barn needs different speaker placement from a square ballroom.
So I ask about the limiter level, power points and access well before the day. Then I set my levels early and build the party within the rules. I’ve never left a dance floor silent from a limiter cut.

Tim’s tip: In long barn venues, put the dance floor near the DJ, not at the far end. As a result, the music feels fuller without pushing the limiter.
