My 50 years as a DJ in Norfolk began in 1976 with an enormous amount of enthusiasm. I’m Tim Daymond, known on stage as Tinsel Tim, and that enthusiasm has never faded.
So this article celebrates the journey, from my first disco in 1976 to my newest awards. It also explains what all that experience actually means for your celebration.
50 Years of DJ Milestones Across Norfolk
My career has used four trading names, yet the person behind the decks has always been me. Here are the highlights, decade by decade.
| Year | Milestone |
|---|---|
| 1976 | My first bookings, trading as Timsha |
| 1979 | Joined the T.V.D.J.A. |
| 1981 | Became Tinsel & Satin |
| 1983 | T.V.D.J.A. National Award, the Tony Holden President’s Cup, and Wayland Chamber of Trade membership |
| 1995 | Renamed Radio Gets Wild |
| 2013 | Founded Mobile Disco Network and joined the NADJ |
| 2014 | Ixion Enterprise Awards, Services and Innovation, in Westminster |
| 2024 to 2026 | Prestige Awards, DJ Entertainment Company of the Year, Central England |
Altogether, I now hold 22 regional and national awards, including three Prestige Awards in a row. In addition, I’m Trading Standards Approved under the Norfolk County Council scheme, ID 0000457. See every honour on my awards and recognition page.

Why 50 Years of DJ Experience Matters for Norfolk Families
Experience is not simply about knowing thousands of songs. Instead, it is about calmly handling whatever happens on the night.
- Preparation: First, I check the equipment. Next, I plan the route. Finally, I review your playlist.
- Reliability: I play every event personally, and I have never missed one.
- Venue knowledge: I already understand many East Anglian rooms, power supplies and sound limiters.
- Reading the room: I can sense when a dance floor needs a change of pace.
That disciplined routine is the reason I have never let a client down. Besides, your contract is legally binding, and your certificates wait in the client portal.
So many families now book me for a second generation. In fact, I play weddings for the children of couples I entertained in the 70s and 80s.
From Vinyl to a Digital System
I still cherish my vinyl roots, and I have collected records since the 70s. However, I now perform with a modern, high-resolution digital system.
That modern technology also brings real advantages for your guests:
- Guests request songs instantly by scanning a QR code.
- My software automatically removes swearing during playback, so parties stay family friendly.
- You build must-play and do-not-play lists inside your online portal.
- Sensory-Friendly Disco Mode softens lights and volume at no extra cost.
Meanwhile, my sound and lighting are PAT tested, and I carry £10 million public liability insurance. So the music feels nostalgic, yet the equipment stays thoroughly modern.
Music That Brings Every Generation Together
This is where five decades of experience truly shine. Multi-generational parties need a careful blend of eras, and I enjoy that challenge.
For example, I might mix 60s rock and roll with modern chart hits. As a result, grandparents and teenagers share the same dance floor happily.
Multi-generational celebrations are my favourite. I play weddings, birthdays and anniversaries, children’s parties and retro nights. Party packages start at £450, and wedding packages start at £525.
