Choosing a golden anniversary party DJ means finding someone who understands fifty years of music. I’m Tim Daymond, known on stage as Tinsel Tim. My DJ career began in 1976. That’s the same year as the weddings of couples who reach fifty years in 2026.
So I didn’t learn these songs from a list. In fact, I played them at East Anglia wedding receptions while they were brand new. Below, I share how I plan the music, the practical details that matter, and the free tools that help.
The Music of 1976: Your Wedding Year Soundtrack
Every wedding year has its own soundtrack. For 1976 weddings, that soundtrack is very strong. ABBA released Dancing Queen in August that year, and it ruled the whole wedding season.
Meanwhile, Fernando topped the charts in the spring. Then Elton John and Kiki Dee held number one for six weeks that summer. Here are the 1976 favourites I still play at a golden anniversary party.

Three Ways a Golden Anniversary Party DJ Plans the Music
No two anniversaries are the same. So I choose from three ways of planning the music, based on the couple, the venue and the guests.
The 1976 Nostalgic Set
First, I open with the music of the wedding year, then slowly move forward. Within twenty minutes, the first wedding guests share the same memory. Meanwhile, younger guests learn something special about the couple.
The Fifty-Year Journey
This approach suits a multi-generational family party. I build the evening decade by decade through the marriage, so every generation hears its own chapter.
- The early years: Knowing Me Knowing You, Night Fever and Come On Eileen.
- The family years: Don’t You Want Me, Angels and Wonderwall.
- The recent decade: Rolling in the Deep, Uptown Funk and Blinding Lights for the grandchildren.
The Elegant Afternoon or Formal Evening
Some parties need gentle background music, so people can talk. For example, I play Fly Me to the Moon, Moon River and What a Wonderful World. The Way You Look Tonight and As Time Goes By also work well. Later, the dancing starts, but I keep the volume low and kind.
Keeping Every Generation Together
A 50th wedding anniversary room often spans more than sixty years of age. Teenage grandchildren sit beside friends in their eighties. Of course, no one song pleases everyone in a multi-generational crowd.
Instead, I plan the night so each age group gets a good spell of music that feels like theirs. Then I build gentle links between those spells, so the room stays together. Above all, I watch who is dancing, who is tapping along and who has sat down.

Practical Tips From a Golden Anniversary Party DJ
Some details rarely appear in party guides. However, they make a huge difference on the night.
- Volume: Many guests wear hearing aids, and harsh sound hurts. So my kit gives clean sound at every level.
- Lighting: Warm amber light flatters everyone. I also leave out strobes and harsh effects on this night.
- Seating: Place tables close to the dance floor, so non-dancers still feel involved.
- Timing: An afternoon tea often suits older guests better than a late evening, especially for travelling home.
