Different ages need different music, party games and timings. So prices vary considerably more than many parents expect.

These are typical professional ranges across East Anglia. However, they’re a general guide rather than a rule, so compare each quote carefully.

Under 5s

Toddler parties are shorter, calmer and gentler on young ears. So I play nursery rhymes, Baby Shark and simple action songs. There are no sudden effects and no strobe lighting. Also, two hours is usually plenty for this age.

Ages 5 to 11

This is the most popular age range, and certainly the most energetic. Clean chart hits sit alongside children’s television themes and party classics. Then the games keep everyone moving, from Freeze Dance to Limbo and the Cha Cha Slide.

Tweens and Teens

Tweens prefer lip sync battles, dance-offs and their own requests. By thirteen, they expect club-style lighting and current chart music. So teen discos need fuller lighting rigs, and the price rises a little.

What Changes Your Kids Disco Hire Cost

Several things move the final figure up or down. For example, these make the biggest difference:

• Party length. A short party for toddlers costs considerably less than a three-hour celebration for eight-year-olds.
• Day and time. Also, Saturday afternoons from May to September are the most popular slots.
• Lighting and effects. Ultraviolet, glow and haze effects suit older children, so they add to the price.
• Travel. Some DJs charge mileage. I don’t, because travel across all four counties is included.

Snow, bubbles and confetti effects also appear as discounted extras in your client portal after booking. That way, you only add the extras you actually want.

Tim’s tip: A morning slot (10am to noon) or early afternoon slot (1pm to 3pm) avoids evening clashes. As a result, it often gives you more choice of date.

What Every Quote Should Include

First, a fair written quote lists everything clearly. Above all, it should cover these essentials:

• An Enhanced DBS check and £10 million public liability insurance.
• PAT-tested kit, with certificates in your client portal for the venue.
• Age-appropriate sound and lighting, with no harsh strobes for young children.
• Plus a full entertainment programme, matched to the age group.

Halls, Schools and Gardens

Most children’s parties happen in village halls, church halls and leisure centre function rooms. They’re straightforward to set up, so the venue rarely changes the price.

Schools need the most paperwork. Then again, I already hold everything they ask for, from DBS to insurance. I also play school discos, Year 6 leavers’ parties and proms across the four counties.

Garden parties work too. However, we’ll discuss power and shelter first. For quieter rooms, my Sensory-Friendly Disco Mode softens lights and volume at no extra cost.

Before you pay any deposit, ask every entertainer these five important questions:

1. Will you be the entertainer at my child’s party?
2. Do you hold an Enhanced DBS check and insurance?

5. How do you keep the music clean?
